Class Syllabus:
Classroom Procedures:
Arrive at class on or ahead of the scheduled time.
Students are expected to bring proper materials to class each day – binder/notebook, WCPSS provided unit workbook, regular/colored pencils, and notebook paper.
Enter class quietly, turning the focus to learning and math class, getting their student binder and required materials, and sharpen pencils before being seated.
Students should:
The day's lesson will be communicated along with any reminders after the warm-up. Many days, students will be active within different learning activities. Students should be mindful to:
Restroom and water needs should be taken care of between classes. Emergent restroom, water, and outside of classroom errands can be handled by sign out and using the classroom pass. Dates out of class will be tracked on a class sign-out sheet and limited to 4 times a quarter. Students should use this opportunity after the lesson has been presented or within a work time, not during an instruction time.
If a student needs to leave the room to see another teacher or counselor, they should come to class with a signed pass from that teacher showing the date and time. This is to assure I know the teacher is expecting you and will be in their classroom or the location on the pass.
Announcements: During any announcement, all students and the teacher are to stop, be silent, and listen.
Paper Heading: Assure there is a full heading on all papers. Papers without a full heading will be
returned without being graded - I want to give credit to the correct student . A heading is on the right hand side of the page and includes your first and last name, class period, date, and an assignment description.
Class Work: Class work not finished in class becomes part of the day’s homework assignment.
Turning in Work: Work requested to be turned in should quickly/quietly be passed forward when asked for in class. If this is missed, hand any work directly to me, in my hand, at the end of class. Please do not put down work anywhere else - especially on my desk, as anyone can pick it up there and I may not get it.
Math Work Format: All work should be completed on notebook paper to be turned in when requested. Each math assignment is to be completed in the following method:
–Complete heading on each page of paper used
–Number each problem
– Write the original problem or equation used - don't rewrite word problems
– Solve working DOWN the page (line up each steps = sign) – write on the lines as you go
– Show the solution as the last/final/bottom line of the problem
– Skip one line between different problems. You can show work in columns to save paper!
Homework assigned is always due at the start of class (on your desk). Attempted means to show work and thinking on paper. It is not a list of calculator answers. If you are unable to complete a question, any question you have about solving the problem should be written. This helps me understand how to respond to your need. Homework is not part of your class grade average but should be completed as it is essential practice to reinforce the daily lesson ideas and procedures.
Tuesday Weekly Work will be assigned each Tuesday for students to complete and turn in the following Tuesday.
Late Work: Late work will be handled per the Wakefield Middle School grading policy. Refer to the agenda for details. Work from absences is due per the Wakefield Middle Grading Policy.
The “Parking Lot”: In the classroom is a “Parking Lot” jar where students can leave incoming class passes (make sure your name is on your pass, please), information, questions, and/or concerns for me you may want or need to share.
If a personal response to your message is desired, be sure to put the student name on the request. This jar is only for teacher use; no one else will read messages or is to remove materials from this jar. “Parking Lot” items may be placed in the jar at any time before, after, or during the school day - except during instructional time.
Absences: Work missed in paper form will be available to students upon their return. On-line resources can be printed from this web-site and completed. If a student is out and is able to check for on-line work, they can complete the work as able during their absence.
Classroom and Classroom Materials: Never go in classroom cabinets, class materials, or teacher desk areas without teacher permission. Always treat class materials with respect, the same way you wish to be treated. Return all materials properly, in better shape than you found them, prior to leaving the classroom.
Do not touch the screen on the face of any computer or calculator with anything. Log off and shutdown a computer or turn off your calculator and cover it before you leave that area of class. Be sure computers are returned to the computer cart before class dismissal.
Keep the classroom neat and orderly – this is our ‘Home away from Home.’ Pick up all papers and trash from the floor and put them in a trash receptacle and/or feed the recycling bin. Remember to get those items you may have placed on the floor at the start of or during class. Even if it isn’t “yours,” please take care of it. Notify me of anything you should not pick up – i.e. gum, tissues, band-aids. If by chance, a student has gum, DO NOT PUT GUM UNDER DESKS, CHAIRS OR ON THE FLOOR! Use the trash can after wrapping your gum in a piece of paper.
Write on paper: not on you, desks, chairs, walls, classroom items or materials, or displays. Use pencil in math work !
Students are dismissed by the teacher and not by the bell.
Be involved with your learning! Ask questions, work with your group when available, use the class web-site: www.krainik.weebly.com, get clarification when needed, and let me know what you desire to learn and
know. Every second is a brand new second! Use them wisely and seek what makes positive choices!
Stay focused and on task. I will work to assure phone calls, visitors, the teacher stepping outside the door, or other interruptions do not take away from your instruction time. I expect you to do the same and continue
on task without interruption. If you need something unique – please talk with me ahead of time between classes.
Tests/Quizzes: Tests/Projects are announced in class. Quizzes will be announced. Be prepared daily. Once the first quiz/test paper is handed out, until the final quiz/test paper is collected, no dialogue of any type between students is allowed. Papers of student(s) doing so will be collected immediately. If you need anything, during this time, raise your hand and ask me when I get to you! I will assure you have what you need to complete your assessment or work. Show what you know - test/quiz time will be preserved for all students by all students and me too!
If you need anything, please ask! I am eager to see all students progress, care about your well being, and hope to be part of your successes!
